Picturing Scotland: Islay, Jura, Colonsay & Oronsay

The Picturing Scotland series offers a book for every part of Scotland.These four islands form the Southern Hebrides and are grouped in pairs: Jura is only a short hop from Islay and Colonsay and Oronsay are only separated by The Strand. While they are close, they are nevertheless very much different in character. While Islay has a larger population and is famous for its many distilleries, nearby Jura is mountainous with its renowned Paps and much wilder. It is the home of Jura malt whisky. Colonsay, with its lush vegetation, has a more intimate feel, boasts glorious sandy beaches and has its own gin! Oronsay has an historic Priory and is semi-detached from Colonsay by The Strand which can be crossed on foot at low tide.
